What does the $2.83 an hour contribution to the apprenticeship fund pay for?

It pays for a top-notch five year apprenticeship program and upgrade classes for journeymen, both at no charge to the participant. The apprenticeship and training program is not run by the local itself, but by a committee with four members each from Local 617 and the local chapter of NECA, the contractors’ organization. The training facility is located at 625 Industrial Rd. in San Carlos.

The Training Trust also encourages Local members to earn an Associate of Science Degree. Registration, books and parking are reimbursed after successful completion of any course leading to that degree at the College of San Mateo (or other community college with permission).

What journeyman classes are offered?

Here are examples of current and recent classes:

  • Journeyman License Exam Preparation
  • Effective Supervision
