Interested in Joining IBEW Local 617? Looking for a skilled career in the electrical industry? Or do you want to improve conditions in your current job? Looking for fair pay, decent benefits, an opportunity to grow? On-the-job respect? IBEW Local 617 was inaugurated over 110 years ago in 1908 and represents over 2,000 members. With a great deal of redevelopment and new construction in San Mateo County, Local 617 continues to fill the strong need of electricians on modern jobs such as the San Francisco International Airport, the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center and various hospital and college campus projects throughout the county. The union has brought the electrical trade to the forefront in the region, where being an electrician is considered a "true" career-thanks in large part to what IBEW Local 617 offers its membership. At the heart of today's 617 is the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (J.A.T.C.) partnership between the local and the National Electrical Contractors Association (N.E.C.A.). Together, this labor-management effort provides local, world-class and highly accredited educational programs for electricians in a modern training facility. Its success has reached such an esteemed level that other unions are emulating Local 617's educational efforts, there is an intense competition to get into the JATC program and the local has forged strong relationships with area schools and community colleges.
